Jake Gyllenhaal is Everywhere!
Jake Gyllenhaal is appearing in three movies with different themes, he's definately one of the new generation of versatile actors.
Coming in November we get to see Jake Gyllenhaal in Sam Mendes' Jarhead.
December sees the release of Brokeback Mountain, directed by Ang Lee. I'm watching the trailer now and it definately warrants a trip to the cinema. I'm not a big fan of Westerns but I don't think this is a typical Western film.
Gyllenhaal is currently filming Zodiac with David Fincher at the helm. The San Francisco Chronicle has a report from the set a some pictures as well. But there is also another Zodiac movie which will be released next year as well. You can see the trailer here. Sound quality isn't that good though.

Guy Ritchie's Next Movies
Guy Ritchie talks a little bit about his next projects. One is the long planned Knights of Malta
The Malta Independent Online reports that "The film seeks to depict the last great event of the crusades and one of the turning points in the Renaissance, when the Ottoman empire under Suleiman planned an invasion of Europe, using the christian island of Malta as its beachhead, leading to a four month siege of Malta in 1565."
Another project says Neil Sean is a comedy which is " a twist on the reality TV culture of today, about a woman who hires a billboard with her name on it and gets famous."
There might also be plans for a Revolver 2.

Review Roundup: Good Night. And Good Luck
Here's a roundup of some reviews for Good Night. And Good Luck.
Premiere Magazine:
"When the movie’s at its smartest, it’s dazzlingly bright"
Film Critic
"[It's] a civics lesson. But you could hardly ask for a better one."
Film Jerk
"A classically made picture, and Clooney pays careful attention to the nuances of the era, at the same time, embracing small moments of nostalgia..."
Film Force IGN
"Good Night, and Good Luck will be a very tough sell to mainstream America...Most of our generation is unaccustomed to subtlety and lack the attention span for this type of story."
Even though this is a story set in the 50s it has an impact on the world we live in today. One reviewer said that while this is a good film, it might not appeal to the general movie going public. I think so too considering the general movie going public made Dukes of Hazzard a box-office hit but even it this movie doesn't do well financially, I think it's going to be a critical success.

Multiple Releases for Soderbergh's Bubble
Imagine going to watch a movie at the cinema. On your way out you could pick up the DVD from the concession stand. Later that night you could see it again on your local cable station.
What is this? A trip into fantasy land?
No. Not if Steven Soderbergh has his way. For his low-budget film "Bubble" coming out in January, Soderbergh plans on releasing it simultaneously in cinemas, on DVD and cable TV. Whoa! triple threat marketing punch!
Says Soderbergh "Everything changes and evolves. We've got to get with it, embrace it and find a way to make it work" but studios are still worried that such a thing could affect it's bottom line.
In a culture of increasing instant gratification - and the all mighty Box Office Weekend - this would be a good thing. If you liked the movie you could pick up a copy of the DVD right there and then to watch again in the comfort of your home or just watch it on cable. And if you really, really liked the movie you'd buy the full featured DVD with extras sometime down the road.
I imagine it would be like the insiduous counters beside cashier registers at the supermarket - great for impulsive buys.

Tarantino's Movie Projects
Still waiting for Inglorious Bastards? You'll have to wait some more. While promoting "Daltry Calhoun", which he executive-produced, Quentin Tarantino also talked about other projects on the horizon.
About the World War II film, Inglorious Bastards, he has this to say "That will be my next big Mount Everest, climb-the-mountain kind of project. I have like five years of writing behind me now, and I just need to add one more year to it"
Whoa! That's a lot of script. I wonder if he'll be doing a Kill Bill thing and split it up into different volumes. With Tarantino, you never know.
Speaking of Kill Bill, Tarantino also talked about making a third entry into the Kill Bill universe, this time focusing on the Bride's daughter. Says Tarantino, "I'd have to wait about 10 years. Uma's got to get 10 years older, the little girl has to grow up and everything. And then we'd do the next chapter in the 'Kill Bill' series."
And for the upcoming "Grind House", we now have titles! Taratino's half is called "Death Proof", a slasher flick with a car...

Quentin Tarantino, Executive Producer in Killshot
MTV reports in their Movie File that Quentin Tarantino will be executive producing "Killshot", an adaptation of Elmore Leonard's novel.
The film is set to star Diane Lane, Thomas Jane and Mickey Rourke which "tells the story of a real estate agent (Lane) who teams up with her husband (Jane) on an extortion scheme that goes wrong".
Diane Lane and Thomas Jane as husband and wife? A bit unbelievable that is but then I'm not much of a Thomas Jane fan. Mickey Rourke is set to play the bad guy - I'm glad this guy is getting back into acting but I'm hoping he'll have roles other than "the heavy".
And is "executive producing" even a word?

Good Night. And Good Luck Trailer
Go watch the Good Night. And, Good Luck trailer now!
My American history is fuzzy but I do know that during the 50s there was a great deal of persecution against people thought to be Communists. Clooney's second feature tackles the fear and fortitude of individuals caught in this web of anti-Communist paranoia.
Set in black in white, you get the feel of those 50's shows you used to see on TV but instead of the sanitized, smiling faces you see the reality of the situation. A father asks "Are my children going to be asked to renounced me?"
There is an undercurrent of tension and fear. It's palpable on the actors' faces - David Strathairn, Patricia Clarkson and Jeff Daniels. But there's also this resignation to truth, of a job that must be done no matter what the cost.
David Strathairn is excellent from this viewing of the trailer. His character portrays the dilemma of every man - desire to know and tell the truth but fearful of what that will entail. His face is so expressive, conveying a variety of emotions. Most excellent!
I had a vague ideas about this movie but on seeing this trailer, I want to watch it!
